The course was opened on Saturday 31 August 1935. Mr and Mrs W.H. Field MP, Lady Pomare and Miss Ana Pomare were among the large number of local dignitaries and visitors from Wellington golf clubs. The nine-hole course was designed by J.D. Mclntosh, a professional golfer and former New Zealand Professional Golf Champion.
The course, which had a “wonderful panorama of sea and countryside” (Evening Post 2 September 1935) was advertised to be one minute from Pukerua Bay station and easily accessible by motor car following the opening of the Paremata road bridge. Charles Gray owned the land and clubhouse and leased them to the Club. The Pukerua Bay Golf Club was formed in October 1936 and incorporated in 1938.
The founding committee, notable for five of the nine being women, were: President, Charles Gray; secretary and treasurer, Mr L.W. Grieve; committee, Misses Coveney, Hilliard, Roche, Wallach and Mrs Grieve, Messrs Lindsay Gray, and W. Lomax. In 1937 the Pukerua Bay Golf Club became a member of the New Zealand Golf Association. Charles and Elizabeth Gray donated the Gray Cup and the Gray Rose Bowl which were competed for regularly. The results of Club competitions were always published in Wellington newspapers. From the early 1950s the land was developed by Lindsay Gray and became the housing area known as Greenmeadows.
The Club went into recess early in 1952 and held their final AGM in July 1954.
